SYNOPSIS

Montreal, December 31, 1933.

On the snowy corner of Sainte-Catherine and De La Montagne streets, exited passersby are preparing to celebrate. Inside the storefront window of the grand Ogilvy store, a young woman watches them with envy. Today, she has worked steadfastly to animate the mechanical puppets of the Christmas storefront. Tonight, she has nowhere to go. When the store closes, she finds herself outside admiring a party in a neighboring house. She notices a young man. In spite of the cold, she doesn’t move, looking at the young man, and she is softly swept away into a world of dreams.

Amazing Grace is loosely adapted from the short story The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen, transposed into Montreal’s industrial 1930s.
